Examining the relationship between negative perfectionism and body image distress with adolescent aggression: The mediating role of difficulty in emotion regulation.
Zeynab Sorkhvandi 2025Adolescence is a period of transformation characterized by cognitive, emotional, and behavioral changes. In addition to their positive effects, these changes can also impose pressure on adolescents. One of the common issues during this stage is aggression. Aggressive adolescents often lack the ability to control their behavior and tend not to conform to social norms and cultural expectations. Considering the crucial role of adolescents in the country’s future development and the increasing prevalence of aggressive behaviors in society (Vakili et al. 2021), the present study aimed to examine the relationship between negative perfectionism and body image concern with adolescent aggression, with emotion regulation difficulties as a mediating variable, among students in Kermanshah schools. The research employed a correlational design based on structural equation modeling (SEM). The statistical population included all first-year secondary school students in Kermanshah during the 2023–2024 academic year. Using Cochran’s formula, a sample of 380 students was selected through convenience sampling. The instruments used were: the Aggression Questionnaire (Buss & Perry, 1992), the Body Image Concern Inventory (Littleton et al. 2005), the Perfectionism Questionnaire (Terry-Short et al. 1995), and the short form of the Difficulties in Emotion Regulation Scale (Gratz & Roemer, 2016). Data collected through these questionnaires were analyzed using descriptive and inferential methods with and Mplus software. Model fit indices (?² = 3348.519, DF = 2621, CFI = 0.93, TLI = 0.93, SRMR = 0.07, RMSEA = 0.03) indicated a good model fit. The results showed significant positive correlations between negative perfectionism and emotion regulation difficulties (r = 0.488, p < 0.001), aggression and body image concern (r = 0.480, p < 0.001), emotion regulation difficulties and aggression (r = 0.497, p < 0.001), and emotion regulation difficulties and body image concern (r = 0.428, p < 0.001). There was also a significant positive relationship between aggression and body image concern (p < 0.001). The findings revealed that negative perfectionism was the strongest predictor of aggression in this model. Additionally, body image dissatisfaction indirectly and significantly increased aggression (? = 0.048, p = 0.022), mediated by emotion regulation difficulties. This suggests that dissatisfaction with one’s body reduces the ability to regulate emotions, thereby increasing aggressive behaviors. Likewise, negative perfectionism also had an indirect and significant effect on aggression (? = 0.094, p = 0.018), indicating that it fosters aggression through its impact on emotional dysregulation. These findings, in addition to enriching the theoretical literature, can serve as a basis for designing educational and developmental programs in schools.Such programs, aimed at enhancing personal feelings and satisfaction, abandoning unrealistic standards, and optimally employing emotion-regulation strategies, can help reduce aggression among adolescens.

The Relationship between Cognitive Control and Academic Grit in college Students: The Mediating Role of Academic Self-Efficacy and Time Perspective
HAMZA YAHYA WAHBI 2025Abstract The present study aimed to investigate the mediating role of academic self-efficacy and future time perspective in the relationship between cognitive control and academic grit among college students. Based on a post-positivist paradigm, a quantitative approach was employed within the framework of a correlational design using structural equation modeling. From the students of universities in Kermanshah city during the academic year 2023-2024, 600 participants were selected using a convenience sampling method. The Behavioral Rating Inventory of Executive Function – Adult Version (BRIEF-A; Roth et al., 2005), the Future Time Perspective Scale (FT Brothers et al., 2014), the Academic Self-Efficacy Scale (McIlroy et al., 2000), and the Short Academic Grit Scale (Duckworth & Quinn, 2009) were used to collect data. The findings were analyzed using structural equation modeling with 27 and SmartPLS 4 software’s. Results indicated that the research model had a good fit with the data, and the validity and reliability indicators of the measurement model met the necessary standards for structural equation modeling. Additionally, the results obtained from Structural model indicated a direct and significant relationship between inhibitory control and academic grit (? = 0.188, t = 3.194, p < 0.001), working memory and academic grit (? = 0.231, t = 4.120, p < 0.001), inhibitory control and academic self-efficacy (? = 0.272, t = 4.914, p < 0.001), cognitive flexibility and academic self-efficacy (? = 0.272, t = 4.497, p < 0.001), working memory and academic self-efficacy (? = 0.329, t = 6.267, p < 0.001, inhibitory control and future time perspective (? = 0.381, t = 7.241, p < 0.001), cognitive flexibility and future time perspective (? = 0.561, t =2.687, p < 0.001), working memory and future time perspective (?= 0.342, t = 7.004, p = 0.001), future time perspective and academic grit (?= 0.200, t = 3.912, p < 0.001) and academic self-efficacy and academic grit (?= 0.201, t = 3.755, p < 0.001). It is noteworthy that no significant relationship was reported between cognitive flexibility and academic grit (?= 0.082, t = 1.365, p = 0.173). Overall, the results suggest that part of the indirect effect of cognitive flexibility, inhibition, and working memory on academic grit among college students can be predicted and explained through the level of academic self-efficacy and future time perspective. Furthermore, the results indicated that the variables of the conceptual model of the present study collectively explain 61% of the variance in academic grit among students. Keywords: Cognitive Flexibility, Inhibitory control, Working Memory, Academic Self-efficacy, Future Time Perspective, Academic Grit, college students, Structural Equation Modeling.

Nasrin Ghodadadi 2025100 Abstract The present study aimed to investigate the mediating role of emotional dysregulation in the relationship between interpersonal cognitive distortions and cognitive flexibility with problematic internet use among students. This study was conducted within the framework of the positivist paradigm, utilizing a quantitative approach and a correlational design based on structural equation modeling. The statistical population of the present research included students from universities in Kermanshah city during the academic year 2023-2024, from which 500 individuals were selected through random sampling. Data were collected using the short form of the Problematic Internet Use Questionnaire (PIUQ-SF-6), the short version of the Difficulties in Emotion Regulation Scale (DERS-16), the Interpersonal Cognitive Distortions Scale (ICDS), and the Cognitive Flexibility Inventory (CFI). For data analysis, 27.0 and PLS-SEM software were utilized. Based on the results obtained, the model fit indices, convergent validity, construct reliability, composite reliability, and Cronbach’s alpha were acceptable, and the Fornell-Larcker criterion and HTMT indicated compliance with the conditions for discriminant validity between the latent and manifest variables in the examined conceptual model. The results from structural equation modeling indicated a direct relationship between cognitive flexibility and emotional dysregulation, cognitive flexibility and problematic internet use, cognitive distortions and emotional dysregulation, cognitive distortions and problematic internet use, emotional dysregulation and problematic internet use rejection and emotional dysregulation, rejection and 101 problematic internet use unrealistic expectations and emotional dysregulation. It is noteworthy that there was no significant relationship between unrealistic expectations and problematic internet use. Overall, more than 65% of the behavior of problematic internet use among students could be explained using the predictive and mediating variables, which is considered a moderately high level. It is worth mentioning that emotional dysregulation played a partial mediating role in the relationship between interpersonal cognitive distortions and cognitive flexibility with problematic internet use among students. These results emphasize the importance of identifying potential mediators in the relationship between interpersonal cognitive distortions and cognitive flexibility with problematic internet use among students to aid in the development of evidence-based screening and intervention methods aimed at reducing the harms associated with problematic internet use for students and pupils.

Construction and standardization of children's sleep problems scale
Mona Safarinowruzabadi 2025Abstract Sleep disorders in children mean a decrease or an increase in sleep in proportion to age, abnormal types of sleep, abnormal behaviors or the occurrence of unusual events during sleep and lead to physical, cognitive and behavioral problems. In this regard, it is necessary to have comprehensive tools to identify these disorders. The present study is a description of a survey type that was conducted with the aim of building and standardizing the scale of sleep problems in children. The statistical population of the research included all children and families of children between the ages of 5 and 13 in Kermanshah city in the second half of 1403. In this research, multi-stage cluster random sampling method was used. A 35-item questionnaire was administered to a group of 350 children. And finally, analysis was done for 302 people with version 21 and PLS version 3 software. The reliability of the questionnaire was done in the form of Cronbach's alpha, composition and internal consistency for all components and the rate was 0.92. Considering the significance of Bartlett's sphericity test (0.001) and KMO value equal to 0.834, exploratory factor analysis was performed. The result of factor analysis through varimax rotation showed 11 factors. After conducting exploratory factor analysis, first and second order confirmatory factor analysis, 11 components (low sleep hygiene, insomnia, sleepiness, circadian rhythm sleep-wake disorders, nightmares, arousal disorders in NREM sleep, narcolepsy and sleep paralysis, disorders related to breathing, vocal/motor behavior disorder in REM sleep, restless legs syndrome, sleep problems) were extracted. The convergent and divergent validity of the questionnaire was also confirmed. The test-retest reliability of the questionnaire was checked and the results showed a high test-retest reliability (0.94). To calculate the concurrent validity, the Children's Sleep Disorder Assessment Questionnaire (BEARS) and the Children's Sleep Habits Questionnaire (CSHQ) were used, and also to calculate the predictive validity, the Rater Children's Behavioral Problems Questionnaire (Parent Form) was used. The results show concurrent validity and adequate predictors. On the other hand, it was determined through the independent t-test that there is no significant difference between the average scores of male and female children in the total score. Soft table and suitable norm for the questionnaire was done. Also, the cut point for each component is obtained. Psychologists and counselors, educational centers and kindergartens, parent and child counseling centers, research centers and universities can benefit from the results of this research.
